Bird Watching Club
The Steele Street Bird Watching Club met throughout the month of April with eighty-two enthusiastic members who regularly attended meetings and then participated in our Third Annual Steele Street “Bird Challenge” during the weekend of April 23rd-25th. You may have seen some of our members outside over those three days with their Bird Guide Checklists printed and donated by the Port Colborne High School Geography Department.
During our meetings, we were kept busy by painting plaster cardinals, sharing stories, photographs, bird books and bird carvings. Our members were very keen to learn about local birds, the sounds they make and their habitats. We would like to thank all the parents who assisted their children during the Bird Challenge weekend.
When we tallied our final bird count, we had identified a total number of 5685 birds and over 40 species! We have faxed our results to the SEEDS Foundation and a record of participating schools can be found on their
website: [ http://www.seedsfoundation.ca ]www.seedsfoundation.ca sometime in the future.
This club is open to all students. We hope to see you all again next year and new members are always welcome!

What is coming up? Fall 2010 Magazine Fundraising
DO YOU READ MAGAZINES? We are going to be running our annual magazine subscription fund-raiser this fall. Our students are hoping to make the campaign very successful again this year and your support is appreciated. Please save your magazine business for our school. Simply renew your current magazine subscriptions, purchase new ones or send someone a gift through our campaign. This year we will be using the services of Canadian Community Reading Plan ([ http://www.ccrp.ca) ]www.ccrp.ca), a 100% owned and operated Canadian Company. They have over 650 magazines to choose from and guarantee product satisfaction and delivery. Not only will you be paying the lowest prices, but our students benefit, since 40% of the money stays with the school here in our community. Our campaign will start in early September and more details will follow at that time. We would like to thank our community in advance for saving your subscriptions and making this campaign a great success!!!
